The protection of stained glass windows can be one of the most important and cost effective procedures to preserving leaded glass, beveled glass and stained glass. With the proper exterior protective glass system and with the options of protective surfaces (Lexan, Tempered Glass, Laminated glass, Protective Hurricane Glass) depending the specific site and climate conditions the beauty and grace of these important stained glass windows can be protected for future generations to come.
The photo above shows the completed job of Westbury United Methodist Church. A very large stained glass window measuring approximately 17 feet wide and over 50 feet tall. We removed all of the old yellowed plexiglass, then removed all of the damaged stained glass panels. We completely disassemble all of the panels and rebuild them using zinc caming, including replacing any and all broken Blenko glass that was broken. After installing the restored panels Art Glass installed clear tempered glass as a protective covering, these should last at least another 50 to 75 years without any maintenance.
The photographs below shows the transformation from the old dulled and yellowed plexiglass to new tempered safety clear glass with windows cleaned, metal frames painted and sealed. This is exterior protective glass glazing at its best.
